Terms

Draft, pending counsel review · Last updated 2026-05-03

These are the terms under which SafeAlias is offered. They are written plainly so they are easy to read; the legal effect is unchanged. The non-marketplace positioning in the first section is load-bearing for everything that follows.

What SafeAlias is, and isn't

SafeAlias provides privacy and safety tooling for independent professionals: an anonymous inbox, light client screening, private notes, a personal blocklist, and a safety check-in with optional alerts to people you trust. SafeAlias is not a marketplace, a directory, or a booking platform. We do not list services for sale on your behalf, do not display public profiles, do not facilitate transactions between you and people who contact you, and do not take commissions on any service you provide outside of SafeAlias.

Who can use the service

You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into a binding agreement. By creating an account you confirm that this is true. You must not use SafeAlias to break the law, harass others, or evade civil or criminal accountability for off-platform conduct.

Your account

You are responsible for maintaining the security of the email address you use to sign in. We authenticate you via magic link or one-time code sent to that address; possession of either is treated as your authorization. Choose a handle that does not impersonate someone else. We may suspend or remove an account that we reasonably believe is being used to harass, defraud, or harm others.

Your content

You retain all rights to the content you write inside SafeAlias: your messages, notes, alias labels, trusted-contact labels. You grant us only the rights we need to operate the service for you (storing it, transmitting it to recipients you choose, displaying it back to you). We do not use your content to train AI models, sell to third parties, or target advertising. There is no advertising on SafeAlias.

Sender content

Messages sent to your aliases by other people are stored on your behalf and visible only to you, subject to the per-alias and per-sender controls you set (mute, block, blocklist). We do not screen sender content for you. If sender content threatens you or breaks the law, you can preserve it as evidence by exporting it before deleting (export tooling is on the roadmap; until then, screenshot before delete). You are responsible for any reply you choose to send.

Safety check-ins are not an emergency service

If a check-in expires unconfirmed, we email the trusted contacts you chose. We do not contact emergency services, law enforcement, or medical providers. SafeAlias is not a panic button, a GPS tracker, or a substitute for calling 112 / 911 / 113. The check-in feature is best-effort: if our infrastructure or your trusted contacts' email providers are degraded, alerts may be delayed or fail to deliver.

Acceptable use

You may not use SafeAlias to: send unlawful, defamatory, or harassing content; impersonate others; circumvent rate limits or security controls; scrape the service or attempt to extract data not intended for you; or use the service in any way that endangers minors. Violations are grounds for immediate suspension. Repeated or severe violations may be reported to authorities where required by law.

Service availability

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may perform maintenance, change features, or remove features. We will give reasonable notice for changes that materially affect your data (e.g. retention or export changes).

Termination

You can delete your account from Settings at any time. We may terminate your account for violation of these terms, with reasonable notice except where immediate action is required (e.g. a security incident or unlawful activity). On termination, your data is deleted as described in the Privacy page.

Disclaimer of warranties

SafeAlias is provided 'as is' and 'as available'. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. This does not affect any non-waivable consumer rights you have under the law of your country of habitual residence.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, SafeAlias is not liable for indirect, consequential, or special damages, including loss of profits, business, goodwill, or data, arising out of your use of or inability to use the service. Our aggregate liability for any claim is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or one hundred euros (whichever is greater). Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, death, or personal injury caused by our negligence, where such limits are not permitted by law.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of Italy, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. If you are a consumer in the European Union, you retain the protection of mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of the place where you live, or where SafeAlias is established, at your election.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product evolves. Material changes will be announced in-app at least 14 days before they take effect, except where earlier action is required by law. The date below is the last revision.
